Watch “Father Time,” My First Sora Short Film.
Yesterday, I finally had the chance to dive into Sora, and within 24 hours, I created “Father Time”, using 100% text-to-video. While I wasn’t part of the early @OpenAI Sora Alpha program, this was my opportunity to experiment with this groundbreaking tool—and here are my first impressions.
Sora shines when you bring a clear narrative vision and carefully crafted, descriptive prompts. It’s a reminder that even the most advanced tools are only as powerful as the story you have to tell. I chose text-to-video for its unparalleled fidelity—some of the best I’ve seen—and leaned heavily on Sora’s storyboard feature and remix function, which were game-changers in achieving cohesion and depth. When I tried image to video, some generations completely changed the visual, which drove me to focus more on the storyboard feature.
“Father Time” is a poetic companion piece to one of my most acclaimed AI films, “Borrowing Time.” It’s a story I’ve been tinkering with all year, chronicling a young man’s journey through time as he connects with his past relatives, reliving the joys and sorrows of life’s defining moments.
As a filmmaker and artist, I always aim to use the best tools available to bring my stories to life. But let me be clear: tools are just that—tools. They’re instruments that amplify the core of what matters most: human creativity, artistry, and storytelling.
At @promise_ai, the AI film and TV studio I co-founded, we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of technology while ensuring that human creative expression remains at the heart of everything we do. “Father Time” is just one example of what’s possible when you combine cutting-edge tools with timeless storytelling. I can’t wait to share more with you as this journey unfolds.
