Writing Effective Prompts

The quality of your AI-generated content largely depends on how well you craft your prompts. This guide will teach you proven techniques to write prompts that produce stunning results.

Understanding Prompt Structure

A well-structured prompt typically follows this format:

[Subject] + [Action/Pose] + [Environment] + [Style/Mood] + [Technical Details]

Example Breakdown:

"A majestic golden eagle soaring through misty mountain valleys
at sunrise, cinematic lighting, 4K quality, slow motion"

Subject

A majestic golden eagle - This is your main focus

Action

soaring through - Describes the movement or pose

Environment

misty mountain valleys at sunrise - Sets the scene and time

Style/Mood

cinematic lighting - Establishes the visual aesthetic

Technical Details

4K quality, slow motion - Specifies technical requirements

Key Principles

1. Be Specific, Not Vague

Poor: "A person walking"

This is too vague and will produce generic results.

2. Include Lighting and Mood

Lighting dramatically affects the final result:

Popular Lighting Options:

Golden hour: Warm, soft lighting
Blue hour: Cool, mysterious atmosphere
Studio lighting: Professional, clean look
Dramatic lighting: High contrast, moody
Soft diffused light: Even, flattering illumination

3. Specify Camera Movements

For video animations, include camera direction:

• "Camera slowly zooms in"
• "Wide establishing shot"
• "Close-up focusing on facial expressions"
• "Aerial view descending"
• "Tracking shot following the subject"

Advanced Techniques

Layered Descriptions

Build complexity by layering multiple elements:

"A cyberpunk street scene with neon-lit buildings reflecting
in wet pavement, hovering vehicles in the background,
steam rising from manholes, purple and cyan color palette,
rain gently falling, futuristic atmosphere"

Emotional Context

Add emotional weight to your scenes:

Peaceful and serene Perfect for nature scenes, meditation content, or calm character moments.

Style References

Reference specific visual styles:

Art styles: "In the style of Studio Ghibli", "Pixar animation style"
Photography: "Shot on 35mm film", "DSLR shallow depth of field"
Cinematography: "Wes Anderson symmetrical composition", "Christopher Nolan dark atmosphere"

Common Mistakes to Avoid

1. Overcomplicating

Don't cram too many elements into one prompt:

Too Complex: "A dragon flying over a castle while fighting knights during a thunderstorm with magic spells and explosions and people running..."

This has too many competing elements and will confuse the AI.

2. Contradictory Elements

Avoid conflicting descriptions:

3. Overly Abstract Concepts

AI works better with concrete, visual elements:

Model-Specific Tips (Video)

Model names and capabilities change over time — always check the model picker in Create for what's available on your plan. These tips apply to common video models in AI Animation:

Strong for cinematic motion, character acting, and natural movement
Responds well to camera and lighting language ("slow dolly in", "golden hour", "shallow depth of field")
Kling 2.6 supports generated audio — useful for dialogue and performance shots
Good default when you need high image fidelity without audio

Prompt Templates

Nature Scenes

"[Weather condition] [landscape type] with [specific features],
[time of day], [camera movement], [mood/atmosphere]"

Character Animations

"[Character description] [performing action] in [environment],
[clothing/style details], [lighting], [emotional tone]"

Abstract/Artistic

"[Visual elements] [transforming/moving] with [color palette],
[artistic style], [mood], [technical quality]"

Testing and Iteration

Start Simple

Begin with a basic prompt describing your core concept

Generate and Review

Create your first version and carefully analyze the results

Identify Issues

Note what's missing, incorrect, or could be improved

Add Specific Details

Enhance your prompt with targeted improvements

Regenerate and Compare

Test the new version against your original

Keep a Prompt Library

Save successful prompts for future reference:

Category tags for easy searching
Model notes (which AI model worked best)
Variation ideas for different moods/styles
Quality ratings to track your best results

Pro Tips

Use Negative Space

Sometimes what you don't want is important:

"Avoid cluttered backgrounds"
"Clean, minimalist composition"
"Focus on single subject"

Seasonal and Cultural Context

"Spring cherry blossoms in Japan"
"Cozy winter cabin in the Alps"
"Vibrant autumn forest in New England"

Technical Quality Modifiers

• "8K ultra HD quality"
• "Professional cinematography"
• "Award-winning photography"
• "Hyper-realistic detail"

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Problem: Blurry or low-quality results Solution: Add quality modifiers like "sharp focus", "high detail", "professional quality"

Problem: Animation doesn't flow naturally Solution: Include specific movement descriptions and duration hints

Problem: Wrong mood or atmosphere Solution: Be more specific about lighting, weather, and emotional context
